Continues Tradition of Giving
Stars twinkle above and lightning bugs light your path. Look closely and you can see the faint outline of friendly forest animals singing around a campfire. The air smells fresh and carries with it a hint of something unidentifiable, maybe its hope. A unique journey is about to take place because you are at Cozy Camp, located in the Department of Pediatric Radiology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. A room proudly sponsored by Sherpa Software.
“Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh would like to thank Sherpa Software for their very kind donation. Sherpa’s generosity and contributions over the last several years have helped to make an immediate difference to the patients in need of imaging services from the Department of Pediatric Radiology and their families,” said Carol K. Ashby, Senior Major Gift Officer.
Earlier this month, Sherpa Software paid a visit to Children’s Hospital and was given a tour of the facility to find out what Cozy Camp is all about and how it’s directly impacting patient care for the campers.
Cozy Camp’s goal is to decrease a child’s anxiety during an imaging study and to tackle fears that occur before, during and even after their hospital experience. According to the Children’s Hospital website, “age-appropriate distraction facilitates coping, helps manage pain, decreases the use of pharmacological sedation methods and builds trust between the staff and patient.”
The focus of the Adventure Series concept, in which Cozy Camp is a part, is to provide successful distraction therapy that will appeal to all five of the patient’s senses. Therefore, Cozy Camp has been designed with this in mind and has three-dimensional decorative elements created for an improved viewing effect. Lights, sounds and aromatherapy are additional elements used to create a one-of-a kind experience for each and every patient. When standing inside the room, it is hard to believe you are actually in a hospital and not outside at your favorite campground.
“Sherpa Software has been an ongoing supporter of Children’s Hospital as well as many other regional charities because we believe in the positive and direct impact organizations like Children’s have on the community in which we ourselves work and live, “ says Kevin Ogrodnik, President of Sherpa Software.
Along with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Sherpa maintains relationships with other local charities, as well. Over the last six years, Sherpa has donated more than $400,000 to organizations such as the Domestic Violence Services of SouthWestern PA and the Wesley Spectrum Services. Sherpa Software plans to continue its support of these foundations in the upcoming years.
